Welcome to The Diary of a Northern Belle
Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet where I journal about my stitching endeavours! My name is Anne-Marie (or just Anne for short), the Canadian “northern belle” behind this blog. I’m a twenty-something year old Costume Studies graduate who loves historical and vintage fashion, anything with flowers, and sitting in sunlight. My needlework adventures began in 2014, when my developing passion for Regency romances and Victorian literature led me to try my favourite heroines’ most common accomplishment: hand embroidery. I was already in love with hand embroidery even before laying down my first stitch. There is something so wonderful about this art. The soothing motion of placing stitches exactly as you want them, weaving magic with a needle and thread, simply won me. I didn’t know what I was doing when I started, but I was enjoying myself!
I firmly believe that anyone who wants to learn embroidery definitely can. There is no special talent required, only patience and dedication (although good eyesight is helpful too).
I created this blog in the hopes of forming a warm and inviting community of like-minded stitchers and hopeful beginners, where we can all share what inspires us and cheer each other on. Through tutorials, projects, and various other tips and tricks, I hope to help you discover the joys of hand embroidery and the many ways it can add beauty to everyday life. I love drawing inspiration from nature and literature, and I look forward to sharing all the fun with you!
